Sunny's first day with Me
Sunday, May 21, 2023
Mom, dad, and I met Natalia at Smothers Labs today and she conducted the temperament testing on the four pups. I was able to participate in the temperament test, I was excited to learn the process. After evaluating and scoring their performances, Natalia determined that the yellow lab would suit me best. How appropriate that I had already chosen the name “Sunny,” it will fit him perfectly.
It became official today, “Sunny” is now in the Chavez family. I took custody of “Sunny,” and we started the hour-long ride home to Sealy, Texas. When we arrived home, Sunny met our two Pugs, Harley and Cami, and our Lab mix Bailey. Cami was a rescue from Pug H
earts Houston, and Bailey was rescued from Burttschell Rescue in Sealy. After they got acquainted with each other, Sunny entered the house to explore and familiarize himself with our home. This will only be temporary though, when I go back to Nacogdoches, Texas to complete my last senior semester at SFA, Sunny will accompany me there. The Service Dog training will commence once Sunny is 14-16 weeks old; I’m pushing to start the training at 14 weeks.
The first night at our home, I had Sunny sleep in my room in a large dog crate. He had a coupe of accidents in the house before we retired for the night. I will start potty training him right away. We didn’t sleep well the first night, I’m sure it was because Sunny was still getting used to his new surroundings, and he was probably missing his mother, sisters, brother, as well as Robert and Beth at Smothers Labs. He will get plenty of love from his new Chavez family.
