Today we celebrated Sunny's first birthday! He has grown so much. Today we went to PetSmart to pick out a birthday present and treat. I went in there with the intention of only buying one treat and one toy... that didn't work. We ended up getting two toys and four treats!!! Sunny was happy... my wallet was hurting. After that we went back to the house and he had some birthday cake. Sunny Picking out his birthday toy. PetSmart birthday haul Sunny blowing out his candles Cake time!!! Today Sunny and I went to Katy Mills Mall to practice for his test. He did really well. There were a few times when I started to feel unwell and had to sit and rest. I would point to my lap and he would lay on my lap and use his body to stop my head from hitting the floor. I think he is gonna go through task training quickly considering that is pretty much one of his tasks and I didn't even teach it to him. Good job Sunny!!! Sunny does not like the bookstore... or maybe he just doesn't like how long I stay in there.

Sunny had his third public access training today. He did pretty well. Food and people are gonna be his biggest challenges. Part of the test he is going to have to take before getting to task training involves remaining in a down position while a child pets him. Another part involves him sitting under a table (like we are eating out) and having treats thrown his way (to simulate dropped food) and he has to be able to ignore it and NOT eat it... this one has been difficult for him. Overall he did good though.

Sunny had his second public access training! This time we trained in a PetSmart... quick tip, if you're training in a pet store like PetSmart or PetCo DO NOT say you are training... they will kick you out. The training went pretty well. He didn't whine much this time but he was stubborn during part of it. The trainer said that he may be ready to take the public access test soon which, if he passes it, will allow him to begin task training. At the end of training, Sunny got a new rope toy, which has already been ripped to shreds due to him and Bailey playing tug-of-war with it 24/7.

Today was Sunny's first official public access training session. We went to Lowes and practiced heeling, focusing with distractions, and heeling with a shopping cart. He still needs to work on heeling with a shopping cart for sure but he did really well with the rest of the stuff. Towards the end of the session, he decided to whine and be difficult but for most of the lesson, he was obedient. Tired Sunny after public access training.

Sunny is officially a service dog in training! He had his first group class today and he did GREAT! Talia said he did so good he can start his public access training which means he can officially go everywhere with me since he’s technically a service dog in training. His first public access training is this coming Monday… fingers crossed it goes well! Oh and group training was outside and it was HOT! Sunny almost saw me have a PoTs episode first hand… oof.

Today was Sunny's last home obedience training session. He did pretty good today but was a little stubborn at times. We worked on the command "down" and staying down when there is distractions. It was hot outside today so he was a little exhausted but he managed to get through the whole lesson relatively easily. Talia even brought her dog so we could see how well he is around dogs he doesn't know. She said that she didn't see anything too worrying when her dog was out so she thinks he should do good in group class. His first group class is tomorrow... fingers crossed he does well!

Today was the first time Sunny came with me to my Dr. Houston Appointment. He did OK on the car ride. He threw up on the way there, but at Dr. Houston‘s he was pretty calm. He said hi to some people and during the session he just laid down and was very calm, on the way back we had to pick him up some water cause he was thirsty but the rest of the day he did really good. He’s been listening very well. He’s really starting to get the hang of the command come, he still having some trouble staying when I say stay, so will have to work on that.

Today is day 4 of Sunny being a Chavez. He is adapting well in our home, and he is getting along very well with Harley, Cami, and Bailey. Although Sunny only weighs 12 pounds currently, he has been playing tug of war with a toy against Bailey, who is well over 60 pounds. He seems to be handling himself very well right now, and I’m sure he will start winning some of the games as he gets bigger and stronger. Sunny’s potty training is going well; he is still having a few accidents in the house, but it’s still early in his training. We’ve purchased a bell and attached it to the back door so he can let me know when he needs to go potty. I am hitting the bell right now to show and teach him what he needs to do when he needs to go outside to potty. Today, my dad video-taped Sunny eating his breakfast. He was eating his food so fast, dad said he eats Marine Corps style, like a Marine recruit in boot camp. On to more training for Sunny. Sunny snuggling with Bailey.

I forgot to record after his last 2 sessions but last session we worked on sitting and staying sat until I give him a command to get up and move. He did pretty good since I’ve been working that into him since I got him.

Today was Sunny’s 2nd to last obedience training. He was naughty today and didn’t listen very well. We worked on heel on my left side. His collar lovel was working at around a 15-20 today. He did descent other than not listening. I know he will get the hang of it soon.

Sunnys first day of training went well. He got his training collar and he’s not exactly a fan of it. We worked on the command come and he did okay. He was stubborn for part of the time. He whined when we used the collar but now (2 days later) he’s coming the first time I ask and even knows to follow me.
